Does it cost anything to upgrade from an earlier version of SafeIT to a more recent version of SafeIT?
No, its free. If you are using a version of SafeIT that is older than the newest one, you are welcome to upgrade for free. Do this by using the Free Update function in the SafeIT-program. |

How do I establish a secure contact with the SafeIT e-mail program?
It is simple. You send a normal e-mail from your normal e-mail program to the person that you want to have a secure contact with. If the recipient has SafeIT installed the two programs will automatically recognize each other and ask you if you want to establish a secure contact. If both of you answer "yes" a secure contact will be established. From then on - all e-mails sent between you will be automatically encrypted and totally secure. |

Can I receive my encrypted e-mails on several computers?
We recommend our users to receive (check) their mail on one computer only. Even if SafeIT is installed on both computers you have to transfer the current session encryption keys between them. When you have established a secure contact between two people SafeIT will continually change encryption keys (usually at every second e-mail) in order to increase security. If you want to read your e-mail at several computers, you must ensure that you have the latest set of keys in the computer where you are attempting to check your e-mail. If you want to use SafeIT on several computers you can export encryption keys via the File menu and then select "Export SafeIT Address Book". Export the keys to an external medium (a disc) and then in the second computer in the SafeIT program choose to "Import SafeIT Address Book" in the File Menu. We recommend you NOT to send your encryption keys over the Internet.
You shall chose on what computer you will use the SafeIT e-mail program. On this computer you can store the received e-mails on a Secure Disk to prevent other persons to ready your secure mails. If you like to read your e-mails on other computers you shall make the e-mail setup on all other computers to KEEP the mail of the remote server. With this solution you can read all your mails at any computer but only your secure mails on your secure computer. Only the Secure computer needs the SafeIT e-mail program installed and the remote POP3 server settings set to NOT leave the e-mail at the server. |

Will my SafeIT e-mail attachments also be encrypted?
Yes they will. When you have established a secure contact everything inthe body of the message will be encrypted. An e-mail consists of two parts - a body and a head. In the head there is info on who the mail is to, when it was sent, the subject line, etc. This info will not be encrypted. In the body is all the text, all the pictures in the mail, all attachments, etc. This info will be encrypted. Simply put - everything in the mail is encrypted except the subject line. |

Can I use SafeIT in my company with an Exchange server?
Yes, you can. But you have to configure the companys Exhange system to support the POP3/SMTP e-mail protocols. Then you can install SafeIT automatically to run with Microsoft Outlook. If you do not want to reconfigure the Exchange to support POP3/SMTP you can wait for the next version of SafeIT. |

How can I use the SafeIT e-mail program if I don't have any POP3/SMTP e-mail account?

Why does Zone Alarm block SafeIT?
Problem: SafeIT cannot contact the mail server due to the fact that ZoneAlarm does not grant SafeIT access to the Internet. The SafeIT program cannot access the mail server. This can occur if ZoneAlarm is set to "High" security, even though the SafeIT program has previously been accepted as a server and allowed to connect to the Internet. This problem has arisen with version 6.1.1.5. Solution: By adjusting the Zone Alarm security level to "Medium" SafeIT can access the Internet. This will allow SafeIT to act as a server and then it will work. |

Does Norton AntiVirus and SafeIT work together?
Yes they do. However both the SafeIT POP3 server and the Norton POP3 server want to operate on the same port (which is not possible) so you have to alter a settings manually. You can do this in many ways, but the easiest is to first configure SafeIT together with your e-mail program and THEN to install/activate Norton AntiVirus. |

What is the different between the SafeIT Security Office Pro USB and the SafeIT Security Office Light version?
The Pro USB version uses a high secure access controlled USB key with personal PIN code, and two high secure symmetric algorithms. The Light version uses no USB key and only one algorithm and you have to register your personal data online in our database.

My e-mail program does not work when I have installed the SafeIT program, What can I do?
A. Check your internet conection by surfing to any internet site to check if you can access Internet.
B. Open your e-mail program and check your e-mail SETTINGS under, TOOLS, E-MAIL ACCOUNTS, SHOW E-MAIL ACCOUNTS, EDIT E-MAIL ACCOUNTS, CHANGE, now check your POP3 and SMTP server information. The server information shall say "localhost" for both the POP3 and SMTP. If this is the case it is correct. If this is not the case note what information you have at the POP3/SMTP fields and enter the name "localhost" at both POP3 and SMTP settings. Save and close the e-mail program settings.
C. Open your SafeIT e-mail program under TOOLS, E-MAIL ACCOUNTS, mark the e-mail address which doesen't works and check the POP3 and SMTP server Information settings, where you have to find your e-mail server names from your ISP (Internet server provider), if you don't find the POP3/SMTP server names here please enter them manually.
D. Now you have to check your e-mail port numbers, Open the SafeIT e-mail program under TOOLS, E-MAIL ACCOUNTS, ADVANCED, These settings shall be POP3=110 and SMTP=25. This is the remote e-mail server sttings. Now check the internal e-mail port settings between your e-mail program and the SafeIT e-mail program. It can be a conflict of port numbers here. Open the SafeIT e-mail program TOOLS, SETTINGS, PORT NUMBER, here you find the port number communicating with your e-mail program. These shall normally be for POP3=110 and for SMTP=25, if you can read something else, make notes of the settings and then we have to check the e-mail program port settings so they fit with the SafeIT e-mail program settings.
Now open the e-mail program settings, TOOLS, E-MAIL ACCOUNTS, SHOW E-MAIL ACCOUNTS, EDIT E-MAIL ACCOUNTS, CHANGE E-MAIL ACCOUNTS, ADVANSED SETTINGS. Here you shall be able se the settings of your e-mail program port numbers. These numbers shall now fit with the SafeIT e-mail program port settings which you took notes of earier. The POP3 and SMTP settings have to be the same as at the SafeIT e-mail program port settings. If these are different enter the port number you took notes of from the safeIT e-mail program settings.
E. Now check if your e-mail ISP needs SMTP Autentication to prevent spamming. If this is requred you have to check the settings at the SafeIT e-mail program under TOOLS,E-MAIL ACCOUNTS, ADVANCED, where you will found the SMTP autentication settings. Here you can select to enable the SMTP Auth settings. |
